Comments: This academic photographic visit to Machu Picchu follows an itinerary that starts at the pre-Incan archeological ruins situated above and overlooking Cuzco; it continues along the local tram that descends along the Urubamba River Valley from Cuzco to Machu Picchu; it looks at the Urubamba River, which is the sacred river of the Incas; it ascends to Machu Picchu itself; and it looks at a variety of aspects of this site, which is one of the world's great cultural sites.
The digital tour: There are short separate photo tours embedded within this larger tour. Various of these thumbnail photographs are linked to other views of the same topic within the overall academic tour of Machu Picchu. The general notion is to accompany the professor-photographer as he explored the whole site while trying to appreciate what is was, what it is, and how he himself reacted to all of it with surprise and delight. This tour, then, is an intended to as a digital navigation through virtual space and time.
