Machu Picchu (16)

Comments: This site carved out of the granite mountain itself (la roca viva) is identified as the Inca's tomb (i.e., the Inca emperor's tomb). Some of the skeletons that Hiram Bingham found at Machu Picchu in 1911 were found in this cavelike tomb. The feeling created by this place (i.e., natural stone and carved rock) was very powerful. To get a playful sense of size and scale, see the imbedded image: => Machu Picchu #16a.
