Comments: This façade is essentially due to late Spanish Renaissance style of Herrera. The Cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady (la Asunción de Nuestra Señora or La Asunción de María), whose symbol can be seen in the rectangular light colored bas relief above the central entrance. On either side of the main entrance door are statues dedicated to Saint Peter (San Pedro; hidden by a tree on the left) and Saint Paul (San Pablo) on the right. At the top of the short tower in the middle at the top above the clock are three statues dedicated to the three theological virtues (Faith, Hope, Love—also known as Caritas or Charity).
Humanities topic: Compare and contrast the façade of this cathedral to parallel buildings in these cities: => Havana; => Guatemala City; => Lima; => Rio de Janeiro; and => Brasília.
