Image: This brief tour will give you a preliminary idea about Brazilian painting during the last two decades of the 19th century; in other words, during the height of the modernista period. This movement was dominated by Spanish-American writers, but, as you will see, European trends in painting were somewhat more prevalent in Brazilian painting than in their counterparts in the rest of Latin America.
