Tikal (5)

Source: WTL© digital photograph taken on site at Tikal (2008).
Comments: This photo reminds us that Tikal is located in the tropical rainforest in northern Guatemala. At Tikal and in the Biósfera Maya are hundreds of species including howler monkeys, spider monkeys, parakeets, and toucans. It is also worth noting that there are thousands of structures at Tikal, but most of them remain covered with the earth and flora that smothered them almost entirely during the thousand years during which time Tikal was almost completely abandoned (after 900 until the middle 20th century). For two of the major trees here, see these following embedded images: => Tikal #5a and => Tikal #5b.
