Comments: This is the Chico Zapote tree. Until gum became manufactured synthetically, the resin from this tree was harvested from Guatemalan forests for making gum (chicle in Spanish). The Mayas used wood from this hardwood tree to make the lintels for their temples and other buildings. This tree is co-dominant with the Ceiba tree in Guatemala's forests (see: => Tikal #5b).
