Comment #1: In a way it's not fair not showing you, dear online student, a photo of the façade of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral, but, between you and me--without meaning at all to demean it (after all it's a church that's beloved in Buenos Aires)--it didn't strike me as being a truly noteworthy building; that is, on the outside; on the inside is another matter, as you will subsequently see. What is really noteworthy on the cathedral's exterior, however, is what you see here. This is Argentina's equivalent of the flame of the unknown soldier in the United States' Arlington Cemetery outside Washington, D.C. Here you see the eternal flame dedicated to "D. (don) José de San Martín and the unknown soldier of independence: salute them!"
