Comments: Here we are approaching central Lima's historic district. The 2007 population is about 8,200,000. Lima was founded by Pizarro in 1535, and it became both his (brief) power center and the power center of Spain's empire in South America. The Spanish viceroyalty of Perú began here in 1555. From thence it was known as "The City of Kings" (la Ciudad de los Reyes).
