Uxmal (3)

Notes: This photo was the first sight I had of the great pyramid at Uxmal. It is known as the Pyramid of the Magician (Adivino). It is unusual in the world of Mayan pyramids in that step pyramid layers are oval, not rectangular or square, and this newer pyramid was not built on top of an older one—as happened at Chichén Itzá—but rather was built next to the older pyramid. Furthermore, this pyramid has a very steep and narrow profile, as is suggested by the silhouette of it seen here. For a more dramatic profile of this pyramid, see => Uxmal #3a.
