Antigua (6)

Comments: At its peak of power, prestige, and prosperity, Antigua had dozens of magnificent colonial-style churches, almost all of which were destroyed during the 18th-century earthquakes. Virtually all of them—like the ruins on the left side of this photo—remain in their ruined condition. Here is one example, with simple Spanish-style homes in the lower right and the Agua volcano (12,336 ft.) in the background.
