Cienfuegos (6)

Comments: This building is located on the far NE corner of Cienfuegos's central plaza. Although the architecture shows some nice features, this photo—a humanities artifact, after all—was taken and composed as it is because of the political sign above the building. Next to a picture of Che Guevara with his trademark beret, the sign says (English translation): "Your example is alive. Your ideas are enduring."
Humanities topic and comparison: Taking in consideration the fact that no commercial billboards or public advertising are legal in Castro's Cuba (there aren't any anywhere), how do you interpret this sign? Do some informed speculation on the truth value of the words in the sign. Take into consideration the image of the Che Guevara Monument earliest in this series of images exploring some aspects of "Cuba outside Havana." In addition, you may want to look at the images on two major building in Havana with the images of Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, both major heroes of the Cuban Revolution. (The similarity of names Cienfuegos and Cienfuegos is truly only coincidental.) See: => Havana #3 and => Havana #4.
