Comments: Here you see the Catedral Basílica of Bahia. It is a 17th century Jesuit stone building in the Portuguese Baroque style typical of Jesuit churches. The first Catholic bishop, a Jesuit, arrived in Brazil from Portugal in 1552. When the Jesuit order was expelled from all Portuguese territories in 1758, this former Jesuit church was converted into the city's cathedral.
