Comments: Here we see the extraordinary gold leaf-incrusted interior of the Igreja de São Francisco (Church of St. Francis), which was built in the 18th century. This church's exterior (not pictured) is in the Neoclassical style with stone imported from Portugal, but the interior is typical of the late Baroque (Rococco) with its elegant use of ornate and sumptuous horror vacui.
