Comment: Now we're driving down a street and about to stop in front of #33, the entrance to the house of one of Bahia's most famous humanists, the author Jorge Amado (Jorge Amado de Faria, 1912-2001) belonged, generally speaking, to the the international Modernist movement; in terms of of twentieth-century Latin American humanities, one can say he was associated with Magical Realism (lo real maravilloso). His most famous novel, perhaps, is Dona Flor e Seus Dois Maridos), which was made into the movie Dona Flor and her Two Husbands in 1978. His works deal mostly with the poor black and mulatto communities of Bahia. Today the house is a museum called the Casa de Jorge Amado. It houses a small museum, library, and café.
