Comment: This section of the map Oxford map of eastern Brazilian coast from Sao Paulo in the south to Fortaleza in the north with Salvador da Bahia (Bahia) in the middle (circled). For general information on the HUM 2461 website, go to: => Brazil. The Portuguese first arrived at the peninsula where they built a fortification and later a city in 1501. None other than Amerigo Vespucci commanded the ship under the Portuguese flag. He arrived here on November 1st. Logically (or piously, according to the custom of the "discoverers"), he named the bay, Baía de Todos os Santos (All Saints' Bay).
