Comments
: One of Gauvreau's unique innovations was the use of pieces of lace (dentelle) themselves or as stencils, which he uses here to--as some art critics say--to suggest femininity or domesticity. In fact, from 1979, while his partner Janine Carreau continued her artistic career and while she collaborated in producing dual-artist paintings with Pierre, she did dedicate herself to giving him more freedom to pursue his art full time.
Humanities Question: Write a brief statement in which you reflect on the stenciled lace pieces, the colors, layout of the canvas, and the possible relationship to the "content" of the painting (if any other than its own kind of aesthetic beauty) and the meaning suggested by the title. (Note: Gauvreau painted the work 30 years after meeting Janine Carreau.)
