Sacsayhuaman (6)

Source: WTL photo taken from the site of Sacsayhuaman.
Comments: In the far upper right of this photo you can see a white (Christian) cross, which marks a pilgrimage site for many observant Catholic cuzqueños. Although I am unable to supply you with an aerial view of this site, some observers have opined that, like the giant animal figures drawn by the Nazca near the Peruvian coast, Sacsayhuaman and pre-conquest Kuskum together were designed to be seen from above and that the resulting image is that of the head of a Puma, which was one of the Incas' totemic beings. The snake represented the underworld, the puma this earthly world, and the condor the sky and heavens.
