Comments: Return to downtown Lima. This statue is dedicated to Simón Bolívar, the great liberator of the northern half of South America. He fought the war of liberation in the core of the Andean region from 1820 to 1824. Bolívar was Peru's president from 1824 to 1826. The final victory took place at Ayucucho on December 9, 1824. Bolívar met his future significant other, Manuela Sáenz, the Ecuadorean wife of a British doctor, when he attended a party in Lima.
