Fort Mose (4)

Image: Here you see one side of the new gateway on the north side of St. Augustine on route A1A . The photographer-professor is facing southwest and standing with his back to the entrance to the short street that leads through a small residential neighborhood at the end of which is the entrance to the Fort Mose Historic State Park of Florida.
Question: By means of the images St. Augustine as constructed here and parallel ones you see in this photo, what are the modern authorities (and citizens?) of St. Augustine explicitly and/or unconsciously communicating to travellers and visitors who pass through these (symbolic) gates? For the old Spanish city gates, see => the St. Augustine pages.
