Mural: "Day of the Dead: the Offering" (1924) in the Secretaría de Educación Pública, Court of Fiestas, Mexico City.
Comments: Protests occur during the year regarding the murals of Orozco and Siqueiros. Meanwhile Rivera maintains the government's official support. In 1924, Guadalupe Marín and Rivera have a daughter, Guadalupe (Lupe). Also, American intellectuals begin to take serious notice of Rivera's work. His concept of this and other murals was a depection of contemporary communal celebrations (fiestas) in which one sees a clear continuation of pre-Columbian rituals and practices. This particular mural shows the ritual of a corn harvest as seen in north central Mexico during the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead; i.e., November 1st).
