San Agustín Acolman (5)

Comments: Here is the core of the Plateresque façade. The main door features Spanish-style wood carving, which was probably executed by newly trained Aztec artisans. Flanking the main door are two pairs of garlanded columns sitting on angel pedestals. A niche with the statue of a saint sits between each pair of colums. Above the portal are three small statues: in the middle is a now headless statue of St. Augustine. It is flanked by two angels playing musical instruments.
Humanities Topic: Contrast Acolman's façade with the most renowned of all Plateresque façades in Spain: => San Gregorio, Valladolid, Spain.
