Uxmal (14)

Comments: Answer to question at the end of commentary on previous slide (<= Uxmal #13): No! There was one more person to go down. You see her in the foreground right. Exactly where this woman in the pink blouse is seen here, she froze. She would not and could not go down any more. Speaking Spanish, I asked her what was the matter. She said she had acrophobia. Acrophobia? Here? Now? And I can't get down if she can't because, well, you get the idea. So, I engage her in a conversation. It turns out she and the other women just below were nuns on vacation from their convent in Spain. Spanish nuns! And, I speak Spanish with a Castillian accent, just as they did. So, speaking to her gently about everything I could think about referring to Spain, I distract and soothe her enough to talk her down, as I descend, too, just above her, all the while holding onto the chain with one hand and my camera bag with the other hand, hatless, fearful my smooth leather shoes will slip under me causing my body to crash to the bottom of this pyramid like as if I were another sacrificial victim.
Result: I got down safely, and with these pictures to illustrate my story to you.
Question for you: Where are Latin American humanities in all of this?
