Notes: This photo shows the top of one of the windows of the Palacio de Montejo. Of particular interest is the classical (i.e., of European origin) triangular structure above the window with the Montejo coat of arms (crest, sword, mace, and conquistador's helmet). Furthermore, the two statues holding up the capitular frieze are both native Mayas.
Comment: One need not ask on what Montejo's fortune was built, right? How much clearer can architecture communicate a message than this?
Humanities question: To what extent is it possible to comment that there is a kind of artistic (æsthetic) beauty in what we see here? In other words, if there is beauty here, to what humanities period or style does it most likely belong?
