Mérida (12)

Notes: Here we see the central monument on the Plaza de la Bandera (Flag Square) on the Paseo de Montejo, Mérida's "power street". What is missing from this photo, unfortunately, is the Mexican flag that is flying just outside the photo's top edge. Note that this is a twentieth-century monument, created following inspiration deriving from the Mexican Revolution (i.e., rediscovery, in part, of Mexico's pre-Columbian past cultures and peoples and humanities). Therefore, strong Mayan motifs are featured in this monument.
Humanities questions: (A) What elements do you see in the monument? (B) Is there a combination of styles? (C) What do you call such a combination, or fusion, of elements? (D) What does such an architectural monument communicate nowadays?
