Antigua (20)

Comments: We here end this virtual tour of antigüeño humanities monuments, with this photograph of this Mayan woman, who is wearing typical Mayan hand-sewn clothes. Generally speaking, women wear more traditional clothing than Guatemalan men. In addition, however, women who earn a small living by selling handicrafts (like this woman) to tourists (like the professor-photographer) also dress in beautiful traditional clothing. Not incidentally, the professor-photographer asked her for permission to take the photo you see here; he paid her for the photo; and he bought a small item from her. The background is the preserved side door to the nave of the Catedral de Santiago that was mostly destroyed in the earthquake of 1773.
Humanities questions: What traditional aspects do you see in this photograph? What modern aspects do you see in it?
