Antigua (8)

Comments: At the center of the plaza mayor is this fountain. This particular version of the fountain is a replica of the original one designed and constructed before 1773. It is notable because in itself it is a beautiful Neoclassical fountain; but it is also (in)famous because water squirts out of the nipples of the Nymph's breasts (seen in the lower center of the foundain's pedestal). For a closeup of this risqué (?) aspect of the fountain, see: => Antigua #8a. Note that in the 18th century, such a design feature was not considered particularly risqué, but it is often so considered in the United States in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Personal question: Do you think this fountain is risqué?
