Antigua (5a)

Image: Detail of the façade of the Catedral de Santiago.
Comments: This façade hints at the building's vast size (vast for its time). As it was constructed at the end of the 17th century, it became the most magnificent building in Central America: its central space measured roughly 300 feet long by 70 feet wide. It had a giant dome, five naves, 18 side and back chapels, and a high altar made of silver, gold, ivory, and mother-of-pearl. As one would expect, it had many statues of saints and paintings of religious scenes produced by great artists from Latin America and Catholic Europe. Despite the fact that this photograph is cropped on the right and left side, you can see external evidence of the five naves, three of which have doors. Right?
