Image: Spanish colonial tabby house from ca. 1720. (As you can see, we have moved up St. George Street; we're now looking back at the house attached to the previous home. The entrance is through the door on the left, which opens onto a patio. Notice the typical Spanish architectural elements: balconies, elaborate woodwork, grill-covered windows (rejas), and white washed color.
Questions: What is your reaction to this architecture? Except for the balcony and the window coverings, why does the external style seem so plain? What is the role of the patio in Spanish and Spanish-American architecture?
