Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano was born on September 15, 1972, in Oviedo (Asturias), Spain. She is 5'7" tall. They have two children, Leonor (Princess of Asturias) and Sofía, named for Felipe's mother. Her middle class (commoner) parents are Jesús José Ortiz Álvarez, a journalist, and his first wife María de la Paloma Rocasolano Rodríguez, who is a registered nurse and a hospital union representative. Before their wedding in 2004, she worked for the newspaper Siglo 21, the TV news network CNN+, Spain's leading national television station, and she was an anchor on TVE (TV Española) for the weekday evening news program Telediario 2, which is the most viewed newscast in Spain. Her marriage to Felipe is her second, as she is his first wife. In a civil, non-Catholic ceremony, Letizia had married Alonso Guerrero Pérez , who teaches high school literature. They divorced in 1999. She and Felipe were engaged in 2003. It is said that Felipe proposed to her with a 16-baguette diamond engagement ring with a white gold trim, and she reciprocated with white gold and sapphire cufflinks and a book. They were married in 2004 in the Catedral de la Almudena, Madrid's major Catholic cathedral, which faces the grand 18th century Royal Palace. It is also said and it is apparent that, until myriad arranged royal marriages for political and dynastic reasons, Felipe and Letizia married for something like genuine love and mutual affection.
