Fort Matanzas (9)

Image: This photo was taken from the spot where Matanzas #9 was taken by turning 180 degree toward the south. In 1740 the fort was a half mile closer to the open sea. Here you see the result of 271 years of tidal deposits. In other words, the fort was close enough to the sea for its cannons to drive away any uninvited ships from entering Matanzas Inlet.
