Cuernavaca (5a)

Image: Another view of the old central square (el zócalo) in the city's historical district (centro histórico).
Comments: Notice the 19th century European-style band gazebo and the festive atmosphere in the Spanish tradition. This zócalo is the city's meeting place. In recent years the central square has been remodeled by moving the statue of Morelos away from facing the Palacio de Cortés (see: => Cuernavaca, #9) and by preserving the trees in this square after a battle by ecologists to save them in a battle against urban planners who tried to have them cut down.
