Comments: The Palacio del Segundo Cabo, built in 1776) was the residence of the Spanish lieutenant governor, and currently it houses the Cuban Book Institute and the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural. At the far left of this building, on the corner, is a fine small bookstore, perhaps one of the few good bookstores that exist in Cuba nowadays. (The reason why it exists here, as opposed to elsewhere in Havana, is that this is a tourist neighborhood.) Kitty corner from this particular building is the more famous Palacio de los Capitanes Generales (sorry, no photo). This latter building, which sports a baroque style, was the residence of Cuba's colonial rulers (governadores). In the gorgeous central patio are palm trees and a statue of Columbus (Colón).
Humanities topic: Describe the building's architectural style.
