Havana (12)

Comments: This old fortress, since 1959, is the headquarters of the Policía Nacional Revolucionaria. It is located two blocks from the Malecón and is surrounded by the streets Cuba, Chacón, Cuarteles, and San Ignacio. One must get special permission to tour this facility. (One must also avoid getting arrested as a means to visit this building!) To the best of my knowledge, this edifice was constructed at the end of the 16th century.
Humanities topics: Comment on these aspects found in this image: (a) architecture and style; (b) period when the building was constructed; and (c) its use in the Colonial period and in the twenty-first century.
