Comment: This is a view of the core of Rio's city center. The grand tradition building in the center of this photograph is the Teatro Municipal. It is a replica of the old opera house in Paris. This Teatro Municipal in Rio was built in 1905. Remember that a city needs a very powerful and prosperous financial infrastructure in order to sustain a major opera house, and Rio's is a major opera house. (The professor-photographer saw Puccini's Tosca performed there.)
