Northern Brazil: Manaus (1a)

Comment: This map fragment shows much of northern Brazil. To find Manaus find the delta mouth of the Amazon River (rio Amazonas) where it empties into the Atlantic at the Equator toward the upper right. Then follow the blue line of the Amazon left (east) to a point where it separates into two forks, the upper one heading NW toward Venezuela (this is the Rio Negro), and the other one heading more or less W (this is the Solimões). Manaus is in the middle of the giant Amazon rain forest, and it is very near the confluence of these three rivers: Amazonas, Negro, and Solimões.
