Hernán Cortés: Cuernavaca (11)

Source: WTL photo© taken on site in Cuernavaca, Morelos, México.
Image: Background left: Palacio de Cortés. Foreground: craft market in the zócalo.
Comment: The mother and her little daughter in the shadow at the bottom center of this photo are selling very popular Mexican polychrome papier maché statuettes and other crafts. As you can probably tell, they are native Nahuátl-speaking residents of the state of Morelos. Note that this place was a market place in Cuauhnáhuac, and it remains an open air market for native crafts even today.
Question: How do you interpret the juxtaposition of cultural elements in this photographs?
