Montevideo (11)

Comments: A scene like this one--boys playing sandlot fútbol (soccer) may or may not exist in this precise location a couple of blocks from the center of Old Montevideo (this was primer property, so it is probably the site of a highrise office building or condos) but it surely exists somewhere in Montevideo and throughout the country. Note that Uruguay is traditionally a fairly powerful soccer country in South America and in World Cup competition. In 1978, Uruguay played in the World Cup final, losing to Argentina, and they will play in the World Cup final again in 2010.
Humanities question: In what sense do you think a sport, especially football/fútbol/soccer can be considered one of Latin America's humanities fields?
