Author-Professor's Admission: Before he went to Uruguay he had never focused on José Artigas, and he was embarrassed to admit that he was surprised to find out from Uruguayans that they are as proud of José Artigas as Argentinians are of José de San Martín or Venezuelans are of Simón Bolívar.
