Comments: In the Cathedral here you see the tomb of François de Laval (François de Montmorency-Laval, 1623-1708), the first bishop of Nouvelle-France (1674). He was ordained as a Jesuit priest on 1 May 1647. The diocese under his control stretched from Canada all the way to Louisiana. The Université de Laval owes its name to him. In 1980 Laval (the bishop) was beatified by Pope John-Paul II.
