Comments: The name of this grand hotel—le Château Frontenace—that is situated on the extreme eastern point of the city's promontory over the St. Laurence River, comes from Louis de Buade, the count de Frontenac. This location is the most famous point of reference in the city. The point is called Cap Diamant [Diamond Cape]. Very near here is where Samuel de Champlain, the great French explorer, founder (1608), and colonist of New France (la Nouvelle France), constructed Saint-Louis fort in 1620. This hotel was built in 1893. The hotel is owned by le Chemin de fer Canadien Pacifique (CFCP) / Canadian Pacific Railway. Louis de Buade was the governor of la Nouvelle France twice: 1672-1682 et 1689-1698. He was a dynamic and strong governor.
Humanities Question: What elements do you see in this image that might lead you to think is has some dimension of Latin American (architectural) humanities—not necessarily Spanish American, of course.
