Comments
: Originally there were 14 bronze statues on this church building's tower. However, seven were removed due to the fact that the weight of all 14 was threatening the building's integrity. This statue of St. Mary is 8 meters (15 feet) high and weights over one ton. The statue is sculpted to overlook the old port of Montréal with a gesture of welcoming or blessing those who arrive on the shores of Montreal.
Humanities Question: (A) What other large statue (or statues) in Latin America serve a similar purpose? (B) Compare and contrast this statue with one you have identified in question (A).
