Monasterio de Santa Catalina (15)

Source: Digitized analogue photo taken by WTL© on site in the chapel in the Monasterio de Santa Catalina.
Comments: Here we stand behind the iron grill that separates the nuns from those allowed to enter the chapel. That is, since men and women were separated, the nuns remained (safe) behind the bars where the photographer is standing while men (i.e., priests and others) occupied the chapel. Notice the chapel's elegant late baroque or Spanish rococco (neoclassical) style of the early 18th century, when the convent was finished and functioning at peak capacity. The gold decorating the columns comes from the Spanish conquest and was provided by the nuns' rich families.
