Monasterio de Santa Catalina (6)

Comments: The principal purpose of this photo tour is to visit the Monasterio de Santa Catalina. Here we are outside the convent's walls. This was a cloistered convent built in 1580 in the Spanish Mudéjar style of the Spanish Renaissance. At its peak over 400 nuns lived here. Currently, about 15 nuns live in one corner of the convent while the rest is open to the public.
Addendum to the visual tour of Santa Catalina: While this segment of the textbook focuses on this Renaissance-style colonial Monasterio, nevertheless, it is instructive to contrast it with a Baroque church a century later also in Arequipa: => La Compañía.
