Source: WTL course archives. Statuette: Here we see a statuette of a naked man fashioned out of gold. Comments: Another golden statue from the Quimbaya culture, Cauca Valley, Colombia. This one is about 10 inches high. Humanities Question: Can you imagine that when the first Spanish conquistadors saw this objet d'art or ritualistic statuette they imagined that it represented a real man? What is the relationship between objects used for religious ceremonies or rituals and those used for the purposes of art? |
