Comments: Here you see the façade of the cathedral of Cuzco. The first Spanish church built on this site (1539) was the Iglesia del Triunfo (Church of the Triumph). It was erected on the site of emperor Inca Viracocha's palace. Nowadays this church is a side chapel for the main Cathedral, which you see here, and which is a Roman Catholic basilica. The "Catedral del Cusco" was built between 1560 and 1664. The reddish stones used to build the cathedral's walls were taken from the pre-Inca fortress ruins of Sacsayhuaman, which are found near the city of Cusco. As you can see, the style of this façade belongs to the period of king Felipe II of Spain; i.e., the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the Baroque period.
