Cuzco, Perú (8)

Source: WTL photo taken on the Plaza de Armas (la plaza mayor; central square) of Cuzco.
Comments: To the right is part of the central square. The photographer is standing in front of the cathedral and is looking at the church of the Compañía de Jesús (Jesuit church). The Jesuit school and residence are in the building immediately to the right of the Jesuit church. This site, which is where the Inca emperor Huayna Capac's palace stood, was subsequently used for the mansion of Pizarro's brother, Fernando Pizarro. The typically two-towered Jesuit church was begin in 1576, and its façade is one of the best examples of baroque architectural style in Latin American. The cupola to the far left is the same one seen in Cuzco #7.
