Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (1)

Comments: The new Basilica of Guadalupe (1974-1976) is the work of architects Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, Alejandro Schoenhofer, Fr. Gabriel Chávez de la Mora, and Javier García Lascuráin. In the space in front of the cathedral (called the Esplanada de las Américas) there is room for 40,000 people, and inside there is room for 20,000 people. The building has a modern circular design, and the roof's design intentionally suggests a cape. The old cathedral on the right was built between 1695 and 1709. It sees limited use because of serious structural damage.
