Frida Kahlo (6) |
Source: WTL research files. Painting: "Autorretrato con collar" (Self-Portrait with Necklace, 1933). Comments: In 1932, Kahlo and Rivera move to Detroit, but Frida has another miscarriage in the Henry Ford Hospital. In 1933, the couple moves to New York, where Rivera paints a controversial mural in Rockefeller Center. At the end of the year, they move back to a good residential neighborhood in Mexico City, San Ángel. The beads on the necklace in this painting are pearls of pre-Columbian jade. Humanities question: (A) How does this canvas compare to Edward Weston's photograph (see: <= Frida Kahlo #1)? (B) Compare and contrast this painting to Edward Weston's photograph and the following paintings: => Frida Kahlo #5 and => Mexican Modern Art #15. |
