México City (9)

Image: Modern interpreters of Aztec dancers, called danzantes, in the Zócalo.
Comments: The ruins of the Templo Mayor are below ground in the open space between the buildings in the background. The ground under the feet of these dancers was once the sacred precinct of the Aztecs before the conquest. There are many groups of Aztec danzantes all over central Mexico, but these in the Zócalo perform every day for thousands of tourists' donations.
