Coyoacán (5)

Source: Photographs by WTL© (2016) on site in Coyoacán, México.
Image: This is the old plaque that identifies this as the "Casa de Hernán Cortés." The date on it says, 1892, which means that was engraved as part of the fourth centennial celebration of Columbus's landing in the Bahamas in 1492.
Humanities Question: Why do you think the public officials of Mexico, acting on behalf of the Mexican people would celebrate Columbus in 1892? (Hint: refer to the historical chronology of Mexico on the county page link for Mexico.)
